Price Detective training - search by description
As the Chief in charge of search here at Price Inspector, I thought I should mention some differences that could help you get the most out of our search engine if you are a first time or returning visitor.
When you first arrive at the Price Inspector home page, it is likely that when you first perform a search using the blue bar at the top, you will type a keyword then press the Search button. By doing this, you are searching for matches in the Product title only.
If however, you were to click the "More options" link on the right of the Search button, and tick the "Search by Descriptions", you also searching the individual product descriptions and specifications for your chosen keyword.
Let me show you an example with 5 identical searches:

Let me show you an example with 5 identical searches:
| Searching without descriptions | Searching with descriptions |
| wrap dress (256 results) | wrap dress (471 results) |
| tunic dress (269 results) | tunic dress (638 results) |
| lipsy strapless dress (25 results) | lipsy strapless dress (33 results) |
| long necklace (231 results) | long necklace (697 results) |
| diamond necklace (393 results) | diamond necklace (619 results) |
As you can see above, ticking the "Search by Description" box will generally always give you more results than when you do a standard search.
This obviously gives you more choice in your results, and will find products that don't include your chosen keyword in the product name (a lot of retailers don't by the way, for example some retailers will put the product model number as the name (such as Hotpoint ABCDEFG) instead of a descriptive name (such as Hotpoint Washing Machine)
By not searching by description, you are likely to find exact, but fewer matches from retailers who display descriptive product names. Just be careful not to miss out on other retailers by searching by description as another option!
I hope this little bit of training has helped you!
