PS2 price slashed April 1st

This is not an April Fools - Sony have announced they are dropping the price of their Playstation 2 console, to squash rumours (for now) that the PS3 will be following suit any time soon.

In the "US of A" you will be able to pick up a PS2 for $99, which is about 70 quid in the UK.

This is great news for retro PS gamers, with well over 2000 games available for the ageing console, however most gamers were hoping that the price cut was going to be on the PS3.

Fear not though, we don't expect this to be the end of the series of "big news" that is coming from Sony, so maybe this is just a little sweetener before they come to us with more good news during this credit crunch misery.
